El Bochinche
What happens when you bring together a puma, a futuristic armadillo, a capybara, a macaw, a spectacled bear, and a Caribbean goat, start a band, and record an EP?
The result: El Bochinche comes to life.
Bochinche: mess, commotion, uproar, excessive noise, scandal, disorder.
“El Bochinche” is a follow-up to Candeleros’ previous EP, “El Bululú”.
The cover artwork, created by Bogotá-based artist SOMA (Laura Ortiz), captures with a unique sensitivity the life, colors, and energy of the street. Two perspectives of the same place — day and night / El Bululú and El Bochinche— inspired by Lavapiés, the neighborhood where we first met: a space shaped by diversity, gentrification, and struggle, but also by community, love, and resistance.
The EP is a small portrait of that constant tension between what changes and what endures.
“Se Va Volando” features the voice of Desiré Paredes and the participation of Afro Libertad on culo e’ puya drums. The track draws from a traditional Venezuelan chant and intertwines it with a Castilian work song, creating a bridge between territories and memories.
“Perro de Agua” is inspired by traditional Venezuelan and Indigenous chants, incorporating elements such as quitiplás to connect with Afro-Venezuelan roots.
The physical edition includes remixes by Phran and PIRÁMIDA.
